Doris Velazquez

Doris Velazquez (née Perez), 91, of Dumont, NJ, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023. Predeceased by her beloved husband Willie (2013). Loving mother of Albert and his wife Rosanne, Fred and his wife Carol, Millie Lugo and her husband Nick, Annette Lopez, Willie and his wife Tina, Marisol Sabol and her husband Joe and Jason Velazquez. Cherished grandmother of Brandon, Tyler, Nicole, Jonathan, Denise, Brittany, Logan, Lucas, Jacob, Ryder, Derek, and Skylar. She is survived by her sisters Lucy Tarquinio, Minerva Cofresi, Judith Benvenuto, and Lala Rivera.

Doris was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Francisca (ne'e Rojas) and Arturo Perez. She was a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother, and will be sadly missed.

In her youth she always dreamed of becoming an actress, taking lessons and orchestrating mini plays with her sisters in their home. She worked as a circus entertainer and then landed a job as a secretary for a law firm upon graduation from school.

Doris was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to raising her children. She loved to cook, listen to music and dance endlessly in the kitchen. Getting dressed up and going out to family gatherings, shows or just to eat was how she enjoyed passing her time. The thing she was most passionate about was her family, making sure to capture important life events in photos which she proudly plastered on every wall in her house.

A celebration of Doris's life will take place on Friday, June the 2, 2023, 4 PM – 8 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Avenue, Dumont. Funeral Mass Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11 AM, St. Mary's R.C. Church. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
