Doris Waldrop Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shaffer Funeral Home - Robert Lee on Feb. 24, 2026.
Doris Raye Mayfield Waldrop was born on December 10,1942 in Houston, Texas. She slipped away peacefully on February 21, 2026, her daughter's hand in hers, encircled by the love of her family.

Doris graduated from San Angelo Business College and used her training and talents as a secretary while living in Edinburg, Portland, and Houston, Texas.

On July 14, 1962, she married the love of her life, David Barton Waldrop. Their marriage of sixty-one and a half years was a testament to devotion, partnership, and enduring love. Together they built a life centered on family and shared passions.

In the mid 1980's, Doris discovered her love for raising and showing horses. She devoted many hours to training her palomino horse, Seven, a dedication that led to a World Championship. She celebrated another World Championship with her buckskin horse, Ducky. Her time with her horses reflected her patience, determination, competitive spirit, and her love for the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Inez Mayfield, and by her beloved husband, David.

She is survived by her daughter Stacy Schwartz and husband Edward, her brother in-laws, Dick Waldrop and wife Anna, Keith Waldrop and wife Marilyn, and Riley Waldrop and wife Donna; as well as several nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

Contributions can be made to: Pecan Baptist Church, P.O. Box 542 Robert Lee, Texas 76945.
