Doris was born on February 12, 1929 on the family farm in
Fenwood, Wisconsin to Judith A. (Keller) Dix and Arthur J. Dix. Art raised and trained teams of draft horses for farm work and she was known to tell you how she drove these well-trained horses as a 5 year old. She attended grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse, the Johnson Country School, and later graduated from Stratford High School, class of 1947. She worked a short time at a business office in Wausau before marrying Dennis E. Weber of Stratford on September 20, 1947. The couple later divorced. Dennis was deceased March 31, 1988.
Doris was an exceptional seamstress and dressmaker all her life, did professional alterations and made nearly all of her and her family's clothing. She loved doing direct sales in jewelry and beauty products, selling Avon into her 90's, always taking pride in looking her best and in helping others do the same. She was a hard worker, having various cleaning jobs, including private homes and the offices of Stratford Homes. She used her carpentry skills to improve her home, inside and out. She was an avid polka dancer and spent most weekends dancing for hours at area ballrooms and dance halls. She made many long-distance trips following her favorite polka bands and musicians, traveling across the US and Europe. She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church of Stratford, being baptized there on June 23, 1953 along with her newborn daughter, Dawn. She enjoyed participating in Bible Study groups at the church and faithfully attended those and Sunday services with her son, Dan, daughter, Dixie-Lee and devoted friend, Lester until she required skilled nursing care. She was a member of the Marathon County Pride Homemakers Club for many years, of which her beloved grandmother, Belle Keller, was a founding member. Homemaking was something she truly did take pride in and passed on her knowledge and skills to her daughters. She loved to sing, especially enjoying her time with daughter Dixie-Lee in her church and later at Three Oaks for weekly sing-alongs. Doris' children were her pride and joy, each name etched in stone on her monument. She was so proud of each of them for their accomplishments-Dave and son, Mike, with Weber Logging, Stratford; Dawn with her Cameo Rose B&B, Belleville; Dixie-Lee with her teaching, writing and mental health advocacy, Marshfield; and Dan as Group Lead in Shipping/Receiving at Land O' Lakes in Spencer.
Doris is survived by her devoted friend of 40 years, Lester Lueddecke of Stratford, sister Nancy Lembcke,
Yuma, AZ; brother-in-law Lyle Pupp, Stratford; and her four children: David Weber, Stratford; Dawn (Gary) Bahr,
Belleville, WI; Dixie-Lee Weber, Marshfield; Daniel Weber (Kerry Breu), Marshfield. Grandchildren: Michael (Joy) Weber, Stratford; Angela (Brian) Eckes, Greenwood; Clint Hager, Marshfield; Jennifer Tuscher-Hurd (Tyler Hurd),
Waukesha, WI; Autumn Hager, Marshfield; Tyler and Jordan Weber, Stratford; Great-Grandchildren Dylan, Cody, Bailey, Bryce and Trey Eckes, Greenwood; Brayden, Blake, Brody Weber, Stratford and Kaylyn Trautman (Dehl Redmann), Edgar; Adia Hager, Milo and Iris Hager-Jones, Marshfield; Wyatt Weber, Wausau. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Three Oaks Health Services and Heartland Hospice for their dedicated care of Doris during her years there and to the family of Lester Lueddecke for their loving attentiveness.
