It is with great sadness that the family of David Myron Wurl announces his passing on March 15, 2026 at Stoney River Assisted Living, Marshfield at the age of 82

David was born on January 20, 1944 to Myron and Helen (Schmidt) Wurl. David cherished his early years spent on the family farm near Stratford. That is where his love of animals began.

David was a 1962 graduate of Stratford High School. He was drafted into the army and completed military police training at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He served one year (1966-67) in Vietnam. Upon his return from service, David worked at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant in Baraboo, WI. He later worked for the Schwan's Company making deliveries around the Sauk County area. David moved back to the Stratford/Marshfield area and began working at Land O' Lakes, Spencer, WI in 1980 and remained there until his retirement.

David enjoyed spending time at the Wildwood Zoo in Marshfield. He was especially proud of the two awards he received for his volunteer work at the zoo.

David loved meeting and conversing with people wherever he went. The friends he made at Wildwood Zoo became his second family. Kay, Susan, Katrina, Melissa, Sara, Steve, and Kyle are just a few of the many friends that David so fondly remembered.

He loved telling stories of the shenanigans that he and Kay would get into and all of the laughs that they shared. David enjoyed going on walks around the zoo and driving to the upper pond area. He did this so often that several of the animals would walk over by him when he called them by name!

In addition to the zoo, David was a big Green Bay Packers fan. He also enjoyed watching auto racing on television and attending races at local tracks. David's other interests included traveling with family and friends around the Midwest, going out to eat, watching movies and listening to a variety of music.

David is survived by his sister, Linda (David) Wielock of Marathon and his brother, Larry (Carol) Reckner of Somerset, WI. He had a special place in his heart for his nieces, Melanie (Doug) Salzman of Elkhart Lake, WI and Renee Reckner of Somerset, WI. David is further survived by numerous cousins and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Myron Wurl and Helen Reckner and special grandparents, Henry and Lonie Schmidt.

David had a soft spot for furry friends and treated each one like valuable family members. We know that Miss Charlotte and Sweet Pea were waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge. Because of David's love for animals, donations to the Wildwood Zoo in Marshfield WI would be greatly appreciated.

We will miss David's laugh and his great sense of humor. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

David's family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Stoney River Assisted Living, Heartland Hospice, and Compassus Home Health.

A memorial service for David will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Rembs Funeral Home and Crematory, 300 S. Oak Ave, Marshfield, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post #1866 - Marshfield at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Ebenezer Cemetery, Town of Cleveland, Marathon County at a later date.
