NEW PALESTINE- Doris M. (Von Gries) Whitson, age 93, of New Palestine, Indiana, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Woodland Terrace of New Palestine. She was born in Covington, Kentucky on December 24, 1931 to Fred W. and Mary (Honkomp) Von Gries. She married Fred G. Whitson on November 4, 1950 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Covington, Kentucky.
Doris spent her younger years as a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. She was a devoted and longtime member of the St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fishers, Indiana. Doris liked taking long walks and had a deep reverence and devotion to God. Doris lived her faith through service, offering support and kindness to all she encountered. Throughout her life, she found joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She truly embraced her role as a homemaker and Doris' life was filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to family.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Michael) Wright of New Palestine, Rick (Sue) Whitson of Batavia, IL, Brenda (Chris) Lettieri of Arlington Heights, IL, Jeff (Sue) Whitson of Dunlap, IL, and Kevin (Dawn) Whitson of Aurora, IL; sister, Nancy Byrne of Glendale Heights, IL; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary Von Gries; husband, Fred Whitson; two sisters, Marian Meagher and Irma Meagher; and one brother, Sonny Von Gries.
A funeral mass will be held on April 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Naperville, Illinois to celebrate and honor Doris' life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in Doris' memory. Friends may share a memory or condolence at www.erleweinmortuary.com.
