Doris Wills, 88, of Monroe, NC, died Saturday, March 8, 2025. Through the blessing of Atrium Hospice, she was lovingly cared for and surrounded at the time of her death by all three of her grandsons.
Doris was born in Philadelphia, PA, on October 8, 1936, the daughter of Clayton C and Mary E Sponheimer Mink. She grew up in Philadelphia and went on to marry Mr. Clyde Wills. After her husband's retirement they moved to Villas, NJ. In 1981 where they bought a house on the Delaware bay. Her mother followed in 1986 and bought a house 6 blocks away. In 2004 she moved to Monroe NC and bought a house right next to her daughter.
Doris enjoyed the life of a high roller, playing bingo and going to the casinos in Las Vegas and nearby Atlantic City. She also loved to travel, visiting destinations around the world including Aruba, Puerto Rico and England. When she was finally sitting still, she enjoyed watching her stories on tv - shows like Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. But most of all, Doris loved to spend time with her family. Every summer, her grandchildren would come and stay where they would go to the Wildwood Boardwalk and have the time of their lives. Her closeness and love of her grandchildren came back to bless her as she was able to be cared for during the last five years by her grandson, Adam Homola.
Doris was a blessing of light, laughter and love to her family and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her sister Mary Downs; grandchildren: Matthew (Meghan) Homola, Adam Homola and Jacob (Savannah) Homola; and 3 great grandchildren: Grace Homola, Emily Homola and Benjamin Homola. Doris is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband on February 2, 2002, Doris was preceded in death by her mother and father, a brother William "Bill" Mink and a daughter Constance Homola.
Doris' family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the honor and privilege of caring for her and for them.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6 pm on Friday, March 14, at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105.
