Doris Hazel (Schmidt) Wurst, 80, of rural Frazee, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at home.
She was born in Detroit Lakes, MN on March 20, 1944, the daughter of the late Clarence and Lelia (Cusey) Schmidt. Doris attended local schools and was a 1962 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. During those years, Doris and her family were active in 4-H. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes.
Doris loved gardening and spent many years working as a florist. She was a past member and chairperson of the Frazee-Vergas Schoolboard, and in earlier years, loved singing and shared her talents in church, as well as at many weddings and funerals. In her later years, she enjoyed reading and completing puzzles. Doris also worked hard to maintain a close relationship with the 1962 alumni from Detroit Lakes High School. She was active in planning class reunions and sent out a monthly newsletter that was greatly enjoyed by her classmates. Her greatest love, however, was for her family. She will be sadly missed.
Doris is survived by her husband, Don, of nearly 35 years; her children: Cheryl (Greg) Boutiette, Randy (Tracy) Lenius, Teresa Lenius, Ross Lenius and Kathryn (Matt) Hartmann; her stepchildren: Michael (Kim) Wurst, Randy (Jody) Wurst, Lonnie (Leslie) Wurst, David (April) Wurst and Kelly Wurst. She also leaves her grandchildren: Tisha, Randi, Maren, Heather, Collin, Dylan, Josh, Daniel, Kaitlyn, Isaac, Dominick, Olivia and Greta; nine great-grandchildren, as well as two brothers: Donald (Caroline) Schmidt and Robert (Joyce) Schmidt. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
The visitation for Doris will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 5 to 7 PM at the DAVID-DONEHOWER FUNERAL HOME, 609 US HWY 10 E., Detroit Lakes, MN 56501. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM. The funeral will be held Monday, June 24, 2024 at 1 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Evergreen, 13130 Co HWY 39, Frazee, MN 56544, with Pastor Del Stohs officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery-Toad Lake.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley, especially their dear friends, Mary and Maria, as well as Pastor Del Stohs.
