Glenville- Dorothea "Dottie" Frederick, age 92, passed away Dec. 21, 2025. She was born on June 19, 1933, in Schenectady NY to the late Herbert and Evelyn Thielicke. She spent her young years in Glenville NY and graduated from Scotia High School in 1951. Upon graduation from Scotia High School, she attended Cazenovia College and went on to work in the drafting department of General Electric in Schenectady NY where she met her former husband, Richard Frederick. They were married in 1953 and after starting a family they moved to Charlton NY. As a young child she was interested in drawing and painting, and her parents encouraged this ability. She was a self-taught artist and in the mid 1960's she began holding art classes in her home for children and adults. She was an oil painting instructor with the adult education program in Burnt Hills and taught at the former Burnt Owl in Burnt Hills, and the Saturday art program for young people at the Schenectady Museum. As an artist, she exhibited widely and won numerous awards for her work. She was a founding member of the Pallett Pals art group which grew out of the adult art classes in Burnt Hills High School. She was a past member of the Colonie Art League, Schenectady Art Society, and the Southern Saratoga Art Society where she volunteered in their gallery. In addition to her artistic involvement, she was a teaching assistant at the former Northeast Parent and Child Society (currently Northern Rivers) for 17 years, making special friendships with both staff and students. She was also involved with the Scotia-Glenville Class Reunion Committee; coordinating monthly luncheons along with the Charlton Seniors, their book club and was active in Cub Scouts and Pop Warner Cheerleading while her children were younger. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children at family gathering and she took great pride in attending and supporting her children and grandchildren's creative activities, vacations at Paradox Lake in the Adirondacks and
Rockport, MA. where she took many photos for future paintings. She was very interested in history, especially art related and researching her Irish and German ancestors.
