Dorothea "Doris" Friga, 87
Okeechobee – Dorothea "Doris" Friga passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, peacefully in her sleep. Born Feb. 25, 1937 in Berlin, Germany. Doris' childhood was very trying for her. She recalled many times having to stay in cellar while being bombed during WWII. Doris escaped on a train at 13, to get to the West side. She stayed with relatives as she finished school to become a Registered Nurse.
Doris went on to meet a United States soldier on a blind date. They were married for 38 years and had two daughters while traveling extensively as a military family. Doris lived a happy life, with loving family, friends and neighbors. Everyone loved Doris for her smile, her humor and love for life. She was a resident of Ancient Oaks for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Friga; parents, Rudolph and Lisa Brandt; her sister, Inge Mandel, and her son-in-law, Charles Leffler.
She is survived by her daughters, Scherry (Mark) Perkins of Lauderhill, Fl. and Annette Leffler of Okeechobee, Fl.; grandchildren, Jennifer Egley of Aurora, CO., Justin (Holly) Perkins of Yadkinville, N.C., and Tyler (Michele Stratton) Perkins of Tampa, Fl.; great-grandchildren, Chantale and Jessamyn Jones of Colorado; honorary granddaughter Rylie Perkins of N.C.; brother-in-law, Ralph Friga of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews; her dearest friend, Darleene Scott of Okeechobee; and her beloved cat, Sweetie.
There will be no services at this time.
