Dorothea Setlock, a kind and loving woman, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with dementia. Born in Germany in 1932, Doris's life was centered on her family, community, and her enduring spirit.
In 1953, Doris was crowned the Wine Queen of Germany, a moment that captured her charm and grace. That same year, she met her husband, James "Jack" Setlock, in Berlin, where he played trombone in the Army band. Their love story began in post-war Germany and grew into a lifelong partnership.
Doris shared a close bond with her son and granddaughters, whom she cherished above all. She and her granddaughter Aubrey had a special connection, often singing a favorite German song together-a sweet tradition that started when Aubrey was a baby. With Emily, Doris would teach her her letters and numbers as a child, coining the term "Grandma School."
Doris was a member of the German Club and enjoyed connecting with others through her heritage. She loved trips to Frankenmuth, going to the Salvation Army, caring for her home, and feeding both her beloved cat Morhle, as well as all the stray cats in her neighborhood.
Some of her favorite moments included enjoying chicken wings at Wintergarden, spending time at Blue Moose, and playing quarter slots at the casino, where she once celebrated a $5,000 jackpot win at Caesars Windsor.
Known for her kindness and strength, Doris brought joy and love to those around her. Her legacy will be carried on by her family and friends, who will remember her warmth and the special memories she created with them.
"To my dear Jack, you have been the love of my life. Though we were parted for a time, our hearts have been bound through every moment and now, at last, we are together again in Heaven, forever reunited. With all my love, always" ~ Doris
Doris is survived by her devoted son, James "Jim" Setlock, her adored granddaughters, Aubrey and Emily Setlock. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, James Jack Setlock (D.2016).
The Setlock family will receive guests Sunday, January 5, 10 am - 12 pm, at the funeral home. A funeral service led by Todd Lipa will begin at 12 pm.
Please keep Doris and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
