Woodard Brumsey, Dorothy "Dot"
PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Dorothy "Dot" Woodard Brumsey, 91, of Portsmouth, Va., passed away on September 14, 2025. Always on the go until recently taken ill, Dot was cared for by her youngest daughter Cathy, and their canine companion Sadie, for which the entire Brumsey clan remain forever grateful.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert W. Brumsey and their daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Byrd Dot leaves behind two daughters, Betty Jean "BJ" Wood (Rick) of Snyder, Texas, Catherine "Cathy" B. Skaggs of Portsmouth, Va.; one son, Terry L. Brumsey (Michele) of Selkirk, N.Y.; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Dot was born in Tennessee, and lived in many places with her husband Bob after he left the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ultimately settling in Portsmouth, Va., and serving as the wife of a Portsmouth police officer, she was the backbone of the family who loved the holidays, crafting, thrift shopping, and a good cup of coffee most often had with friends at Dennis' Spaghetti and Steak House early each morning.
Private burial services were held at Olive Branch Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Bon Secours Palliative and Hospice Care Services of Portsmouth, Va., and private aides services from Care Advantage in-home care services.
