Dorothy Wood Carson of Marietta, GA passed away at age 67 on January 26, 2025 peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Montgomery, Alabama, Dorothy graduated from Troy State University in Troy, Alabama. She began her career as a Flight Attendant with Eastern Airlines where she met her husband of 36 years, Jed Carson, who survives. Dorothy and Jed were Flight Attendants for Eastern Airlines in the airline industry heyday, traveling internationally for work and pleasure. They met on the Miami to NY Miami route when Dorothy was just a trainee. For a short time, Dorothy worked for a private air charter service that specialized in sports teams, including the Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks. Dorothy topped off her career by working as an ASP teacher at nearby Davis Elementary.
In addition to her husband, Jed, Dorothy is survived by her daughter Sarah Carson Shearer and her husband, Tyler Shearer of Vinita, Oklahoma; sister Jenny Wood Steadham of Millbrook, AL; stepsister, Joyce Wood Murphy of Greenville, AL; mother-in law Louise Carson and sister-in-law, Julie Carson both of Wilton Manors, FL; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her Father Mason L. Wood Sr. and Mother Dorothy Virginia Coughlin Wood; Step-Mother Lois H. Wood; brother Mason L. Wood, Jr.; Father-in Law, John H. (Jack) Carson and Brother-in Law, Jon Carson.
Raised as a Methodist, Dorothy lived a faithful and spiritual life. She leaves a strong legacy of goodness built on the foundation of her personal faith, strong friendships, commitment to family, and dedication to work. She built a lifetime network of deep friendships with those who loved Lake Life, Bunco, and Tennis. Dorothy was an animal lover and treasured the family's American Eskimo, Max and later Macee, a Maltipoo; as well as her many fur nieces and nephews; grand dogs and especially the bunnies, goats, chickens, and pigs that are a part of Sarah and Tyler's Farm in Oklahoma.
Over the last decades, Dorothy especially loved her time with Jed and family at the beach or watching sunsets in Naples, Marco Island, Florida and at nearby Lake Allatoona in GA.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 31, 2025, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 1:30 p.m. until a time of remembrance at 2:00 p.m.in the McMikle Chapel.
Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
