Mrs. Dorothy Mae Anderson Childress, 91, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024. She was born in Iredell County on March 27, 1933 to Vernie and Elsie Anderson. Dorothy was a member of Courtney Baptist Church for most of her life. She enjoyed taking naps and eating little Debbie Cakes. Dorothy had the best personality and was such a joy to be around. She will be greatly missed by everyone who had the special privilege to know her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Childress; and siblings, Wayne Anderson, Dwight Anderson, Ruth Johnson, Margaret Vestal, Betty Spillman, and Dora Summers. She is survived by a son, Bobby (Donna) Gray Childress; brother-in-law, Troy Spillman; and a special friend, Mavis Baity.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Courtney Baptist Church with Pastor James Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Childress family.
