Dorothy Irene Cwik (Marker), a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the age of 93, in Elmhurst, IL, and is now with her Lord and Savior.
Dorothy was born on November 19, 1931, in Chicago, IL, to Joseph and Irene Marker (Knaack) of Chicago, IL. She was baptized on December 20, 1931, and confirmed on March 25, 1945, at Tabor Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL. She graduated from York High School, Elmhurst, IL, in 1949 and six years later married the love of her life, Donald Cwik, Sr. on December 17, 1955, enjoyed 68 years of marriage and together had six children. They lived in Villa Park, IL, for 35 years before retiring to Reedsburg, WI, where they lived for 16 years. In 2015, they moved back to IL, and resided in Yorkville, IL, and made their final home in Elmhurst, IL.
She rejoiced in the prospect of going to heaven and meeting with her Lord. She sang and prayed about it continually throughout her life. To ensure her husband and six children learned to sing and pray alongside, she made certain they were seated together in the first pew on Sunday mornings at Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park, IL, to listen to the Word of God thru Pastor David Ritt, our family's loving friend and comforter for the past 50 years.
Dorothy was a loving, kind, and generous person who made those around her feel welcomed. She knew how to encourage and comfort others in distress with the encouragement and comfort she herself received from Jesus.
Up until her death, she was singing hymns with her children that she had learned in her younger days - hymns about heaven and the joy of meeting our Lord. She knew that indeed, her "Redeemer lives" and that death is not a loss but a gain; that death is far better; and she knew that the Lord would "abide with her" and that to die is to be present with the Lord. She knew that "Christ shall come with shout of acclamation to take her home and that joy shall fill her heart" and looked forward to "bowing in humble adoration" and at last, "proclaiming, my God, how great Thou art!".
Dear Mom (and Dad),
We grieve today, tomorrow, and all our days for you. But we are also glad that you are eternally happy. For you, there will be no more death or mourning, no more crying or pain. Soon our own sorrow and pain will also be over - as God's Will be done - then all of us and your grandchildren whom you taught to trust in Jesus, will join you and our Lord for the everlasting joy and unending celebration of heaven.
Love,
Denise, Don, Dawn, Douglas, Doreen, and Darin
xoxo
