Dorothy Eastley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral & Cremation Services on Aug. 2, 2024.
MARQUETTE, MI – Dorothy Marie Eastley, age 99, of Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Trillium House, with her son, Charlie, by her side, and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.
Dorothy was born October13, 1924, in Big Bay, a daughter of Ludwig and Mary (Velencich) Prosen. Her youth was filled with adventures with her siblings and school friends, building forts in the woods, ice skating on Lake Independence, performing chores at home, and attending the Powell Township School. In 1943, Dorothy came to Marquette to live with her aunt while attending Bishop Baraga High School from where she graduated in 1944. She then moved to Milwaukee where she was employed at a factory manufacturing airplane engines during World War II. She later returned to Big Bay, working at Fleury's Store for a time. On June 24, 1950, Dorothy was united in marriage to John Eastley at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Bay. The couple made their first home in Big Bay at Dorothy's mother's home on Prosen Road for the next four years. Later, they relocated to Marquette's Kimber Avenue briefly before purchasing the present home on Wright Street in 1956. In 1966, Dorothy began a long employment at the Marquette Red Owl Grocery, retiring in 1977. For many years, Dorothy volunteered her time at the Marquette General Hospital Gift Shop. A lover of the outdoors and what nature had to offer, Dorothy enjoyed the seasons, cutting grass, sitting in the sun, raking leaves, shoveling snow, and playing with her kids in the backyard. Throughout the years, Dorothy had been a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and St. Christopher Catholic Church.
A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Dorothy is survived by a son, Charlie Eastley of Marquette; her grandchildren, Mandy (Randall Maxwell) Eastley and Erik Eastley both of Marquette; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Eastley of Marquette; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John Eastley; a son, John Eastley, Jr; an infant brother, Rudolph Prosen; brother, Ludwig Prosen; and her sister and brother-in-law, Louise (Frank) Spehar.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Friday, August 16, beginning at 2:00 pm until the time of service at 4:00 pm. Rev. Daniel Moll will officiate. A reception will be held during the visitation. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UPAWS, Trillium House, or Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the following for their compassionate and professional care of Dorothy throughout the years: Norlite Nursing Center, UP Health System-Marquette, Trillium House, Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice, Dr. Kaitlyn Joyce; and social worker, Steve Rudness.
