Dorothy Edwards Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" Chamblee Edwards
February 15, 1924 - July 7, 2021
Raleigh, North Carolina - Dorothy "Dot" Chamblee Edwards, 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2021.
Dot was a native of Raleigh and grew up in the historic Boylan Heights neighborhood, where she played softball in the streets. She was the daughter of Robert Melville Chamblee and Jessie Kirkland Chamblee. Dot graduated from Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh and studied at Woman's College (now UNCG) before honing her skills at King's Business College and going to work for Durham Life Insurance Company.
Dot married James Paul Edwards in December 1947 and the couple founded Inland Construction Company in 1952. Dot helped Jimmy grow a successful commercial general contracting business while running carpool and managing home life for the family, raising three active kids on Rock Creek Drive and enjoying steaks on the grill every Saturday night. Dot was an active member of Christ Baptist Church and especially enjoyed her Sunday School family. She was also a former leader in Bible Study Fellowship.
Dot is survived by three children, Susan Edwards, Debbie Edwards and Jim Edwards, Jr. (Sally); grandson, James Bailey (Rachel) and great-grandsons Mack and August Bailey. Dot was predeceased by her husband and her sisters, Mary Wilkinson and Libby Booth.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 12 at 2:00pm at Christ Baptist Church on Newton Road in Raleigh. The family will receive visitors at the church prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm. It is kindly requested that visitors who are not fully vaccinated wear a mask and others are welcome to do so as well.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the wonderful team at Transitions Life Care. Memorials may be made at ChristBaptist.org, TransitionsLifeCare.org or a leading cancer charity of your choice.

Susan and Debbie - So sorry for the loss of your dear Mother (or really 'older sister). What a lovely lady she has been to all of us. Always smiling and gracious. We don't mourn for her since we know that smile has gotten bigger and brighter since she is clearly and delightfully with The Lord. Our prayers are with you. I know you'll miss her. You both have been so faithful to her.

Our (me and Deb) days at Appalachian wouldn´t have been the same without coming to Raleigh to visit you on the weekend. You and your family are in my prayers. Love, Puff
