Dorothy Areta Cornwell Farren, 95, of Verona, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at King's Daughters Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Staunton.

Born on April 18, 1929, in Frankfort, West Virginia, to the late Annie Gray Cornwell, Dorothy's life was marked by deep love for her family and dedication to her work.

In 1946, she married Bill Farren, and they moved to Verona in 1955 when Bill took a job as a truck driver for Smith's Transfer Corporation in Staunton. Together, they built a life filled with happiness and commitment until his passing in 1994.

Dorothy's career spanned several decades as a waitress, with forty of those years dedicated to serving guests at the former Ingleside Resort restaurant. Her warm smile and genuine spirit made her a favorite among patrons and colleagues alike. Beyond her professional life, Dorothy had a zest for adventure. She loved traveling to Charles Town, West Virginia, to enjoy the thrill of the casino, basking in the sun’s embrace in Florida, and indulging in shopping whenever possible.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Linda Louise Farren Huntley, and her husband, Tom; her grandchildren, Renae and Kevin Bailey and Michael and Rona Huntley; her great-grandchildren, Jake and Courtney Bailey, Taylor and Conner Whitehouse, Luke Bailey, and Harper and Cole Huntley; and her great-great-granddaughters, Jolie Lynn Bailey and a Baby Girl Whitehouse expected in February.

As per her wishes, no funeral services will be held - for in her final act of selflessness and generosity, she chose to donate her body to science, leaving a legacy of compassion and contribution to the greater good. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and and through the lives she may help improve.
