Family & friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours on Monday, June 3rd from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach St., Revere for Dorothy R. (Morrison) Gerrin, of Winchester, formerly of Revere, who passed away following a brief illness, on Tuesday, May 28th at the Aberjona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester. She was 88 years old. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 12:00 p.m., followed by interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
Born in Brighton on May 20, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Arthur D. and the late Rita F. (Curtis) Morrison. Dorothy was raised in Somerville, where she attended Somerville High School.
Dorothy went on to study at Mansfield Beauty Academy where she would graduate, earning her certificate in cosmetology in 1969. Years later, she continued her education at Bunker Hill Community College, where she earned an associate degree in Human Services. Dorothy went on to attend Tufts University working toward a degree in Psychology.
She was a developmental specialist at Till, Inc. and the Bay Cove Human Service Agency in Boston, and later as a counselor at the Parental Stress Counseling Service. Years later, Dorothy worked for The Cambridge Court House as head of the purchasing department in the Probate Division for many years until the time of her retirement. During her career at the courthouse, Dorothy began making jewelry and went on to start her own business, Ken-Am-Hesh, where she specialized in handcrafting Native American jewelry. She took immense pride in her Native American Heritage starting the business in honor of her paternal grandmother, Grace Budlong-Morizen-Eveleth. Dorothy was a past member of the St Ann's Parish Pastoral Care Committee, providing spiritual support to all those in need. Dorothy also had an interest in genealogy and spent tireless hours researching her family history. She loved the warm weather and enjoyed spending time at the beach. Dorothy also had a green thumb and loved to grow and care for a variety of plants.
Steadfast in her ways and devoted in her faith, Dorothy especially adored her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and loyal friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late John J. Gerrin, Jr., with whom she shared 25 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2007. Devoted mother of Joseph F. Farago of Guam, Patricia A. Farago of Winthrop, Dorothy J. Sands and her husband Stephen of Medford, James A. "Jim" Farago and his wife Robin of Salisbury, and Richard L. Farago and his wife Linda of Westford; Cherished grandmother of Christopher Farago and his wife Rhiannon of Jacksonville, Andrea Farago of Austin, the late Nicholas Farago, Marissa Farago, Anthony Farago, and Michael Farago, all of Sailsbury, Isabella Farago of Westford, and Joseph Farago of New York; adored great grandmother of Benjamin Farago, Elara Farago, Keenan Farago, Alexis Farago, Austin Barrois, Leonidas Malikai Monroe, and Le-Vian Martavis Monroe; dear elder sister of Patricia Hart, the late Arthur Morrison, and the late Richard Morrison. Dorothy is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
