Dorothy LaVerne Gilley, nee Genesio, 94, of Marissa, IL, born August 20, 1931, in Du Quoin, IL, passed away on Sunday October 19, 2025, with her family at her side. Mrs. Gilley was a homemaker and a member of Marissa Presbyterian Church in Marissa, IL. She also enjoyed painting pictures and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents – John and Ruth (Roper) Genesio, her loving husband – Donald E. Gilley whom she married on March 26, 1948, and who passed away on January 4, 2001, her daughter-in-law – Deborah Gilley and two nephews – Paul Milam and Stewart Milam.

Dorothy is survived by her two sons – Ronald L. (Deanna) Gilley and Craig Gilley, all of Marissa, IL, a sister – Bonnie Milam of Coulterville, IL, two nephews – Michael (Judy) Milam of Gilbert, AZ and Steve Milam of Marissa, IL, four grandchildren – Michelle (Brent) Bollmeier, Brandon (Cindy) Gilley, Chad (Tara) Gilley and Gina Mesnarich, ten great grandchildren – Emilie (Justin) DeWitt, Allison Bollmeier, Madeline Bollmeier, Austin Gilley, Autumn Gilley, Brett (Alexis) Gilley, Chase Hurst, Lydia Mesnarich, Jack Stewart and Kaden Stewart, two great-great grandchildren – Callie and Wyatt DeWitt and 2 more great-great grandchildren are on the way.

Memorials may be made to Marissa Presbyterian Church or to Vitas Hospice.

Per Mrs. Gilley's wishes, private visitation and services officiated by Pastor Tim McIntyre will be observed.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL is in charge of arrangements.
