Dorothy Groceman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eaton Funeral Home & Cremation Center - Main Chapel on Dec. 27, 2024.
Dorothy "Dottie" M. Groceman, 71, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Missouri Baptist Hospital.
Dorothy Marie Groceman, was born on December 31, 1952, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to the late Stephen and Edna (Light) Yanczer. Dottie's early years were spent in the heart of Saint Louis, where she attended Monroe Grade School, followed by Roosevelt High School. Shortly after her high school years, Dottie's life blossomed as she married Robert Fitting in 1969. Their union was blessed with three sons: Michael, Jeffrey, and Steven. Dottie embraced motherhood with open arms, raising her family with love and care in Saint Louis while working as a waitress. Sadly, Dottie and Robert later divorced.
Her heart found love again when she married Mark Groceman. The couple shared nearly two decades of marriage, filled with the joys of travel including trips to Hawaii and Europe. During this time, Dottie also began a fulfilling career at McDonnell Douglas, which later became Boeing. For over 30 years, she served as a personal assistant. Dottie was also the lead driver for the van carpool with fellow Sullivan locals who worked at Boeing.
In 1995, Dottie and Mark moved to Sullivan, where she continued to build her life. Sadly, their marriage would later come to an end.
In Sullivan, she and Bill Tamin embarked on a loving journey that lasted 20 years. Dottie and Bill were inseparable, sharing a passion for the outdoors. They spent countless hours boating at Bull Shoals Lake, cruising in their Corvettes, and riding motorcycles through the countryside.
Dottie was an avid reader, often found with a book in hand. She was also an avid doll collector. Many of her quiet, simple moments were spent swinging on her porch, watching the cows with Bill, and enjoying the serene beauty of their rural life. Her pets were like family as well, including her favorite cat, Buddy.
Dottie is survived by her sons: Michael Fitting and wife Melinda (nee Krebs) of Belleville, IL, Jeffrey Fitting and Steven Fitting both of Saint Louis, Missouri; loving companion, Bill Tamin of Sullivan, Missouri; four grandchildren: Jordyn Fitting, Haileigh Fitting, Kyle Fitting, Ryan Fitting; a great grandchild, Addison; three siblings: Patricia Stutts (nee Yanczer) and husband Robert of Jacksonville, NC, Michael Yanczer of Saint Louis, Missouri, and Donald Yanczer and wife Mimi of Bethalto, IL; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Edna Yanczer; and a sister, Margaret Ann Walls.
Arrangements for cremation have taken place. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.
