Dorothy Harrell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buchanan Funeral Service on Mar. 11, 2026.
Dorothy Merle Harrell was born on September 3, 1934, in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. She was

the third child of five children born to Edgar and Edna Wilson. Her family spent most of her

childhood in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She married Mike Edward Harrell in 1953. Together, they moved from Louisiana to New Mexico

back to Louisiana and finally to Oklahoma City. During the early 1980s, Mike operated his own

company in which Dorothy was an integral support with her ability to utilize the latest

technology, mainframe computers. She assisted Mike in processing well log data. After Mike's

death in 1987, she worked for Saint Paul Insurance where she was valued for her typing and

computer skills. After retiring, she transitioned into caring for elderly in their homes until she

was in her early 80s.

Dorothy loved to share stories about her family. She held traditions like eating black eyed peas

and cabbage on New Years and love of gumbo from her childhood. She valued her faith, family,

and friendships.

On Sunday, February 8, 2026 at the age of 91, Dorothy went to be with the Lord. Dorothy was

preceded in death by her parents, sister Gloria Floyd and her beloved husband, Mike Harrell. She

leaves behind four children, one grandchild and three great-grandchildren and one great-great-

grandchild.

Dorothy's love for her family was steady and unwavering, and her presence will be deeply

missed by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
