Dorothy was born on August 15, 1923 to Harvey and Anna (Koskie) Arndt. She grew up on the farm, helping with farm chores, raising a garden and canning the fruits and vegetables from the garden. She graduated from Evansville High School in 1941 and then worked at the Evansville Creamery. Dorothy married Milo Johnson on April 3, 1945. Dorothy and Milo farmed until Milo retired in 1984 and they build a house in Evansville. Dorothy and Milo raised five children on the farm: Marlin, Ronald, Stanley, Steven, and Kathleen. She sewed and patched their clothes, helped with their 4-H projects, and was waiting for them when they came home from school. She enjoyed baking bread and buns and it was a special treat when you walked through the door to the smell of fresh buns! It was even better if you could sneak a bun while it was still warm! She continued to have a garden when they moved into town and continued to can the harvest from the garden.
After Milo passed away in December of 1994, she began to receive rose bushes for Mother’s Day and her birthday so she created a rose garden that became her pride and joy. Dorothy also enjoyed making quilts, visiting family, and embroidering towels and pillowcases that were gifts to everyone in the family.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Marlin (Rennae), Ron (Julie), Stan (Valerie), Steve (Mary), and Kathy; her eight grandchildren: Aaron (Jenna) Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Heather (Greg) Reiner, Caryn (Randy) Jacobson, Christa (Jason) Walters, Erik Johnson, Garrett (Bridget) Johnson, Casey (Mitch) Koepnick; and eight great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
