Dorothy S. Johnson (Swasey)
Born September 20, 1927, in Norwich, Vermont to Charles and Orleana Swasey, passed away
naturally and peacefully in the early morning of October 6, 2025.
She is survived and will be sadly missed by her daughter Barbara Virginia (Ginny) VanHousen (Jack), her
sons Roy Johnson Jr. (Debbie), Barry Johnson (Robin), and Terry Johnson. Her Grandchildren:
Wendy Johnson Teran, Shannon Johnson, Orlando Valero (Patricia), Angelita Knapp (Marty), Antoinette Rose (Thomas), Amelia Valero-Brust (Jessie), Jeremy Johnson (Barbara), Jason Johnson. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Roy Rockford Johnson as well as her brothers, Charles,
Earl, Carl, Jim and Howard Swasey, and her sisters, Alvaretta Martin and Ella Robinson.
She is also predeceased by her beloved niece Karman.
After graduating high school, she lived and worked in Keene, New Hampshire where she met her
husband Roy. They lived in Marlboro, N,H, then moved to Coxsackie, NY in 1953 where they raised
a family. She worked as a seamstress several years at Adamo's Dress Factory and for Minnie's on
South River Street until Roy's retirement. She also did in home dress making for weddings and
proms along with alterations for local people. She loved to garden, mow her lawn and volunteer at
her church. She was a long-time member of the Coxsackie Hose Co. #3 auxiliary with starting an
activities committee to raise funds for a new kitchen in the firehouse and parade uniforms for the
men and women. She made several of the auxiliary uniforms herself.
Viewing hours will be from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Monday October 13, 2025, at First United
Methodist Church of Coxsackie, 103 Mansion Street followed by funeral services and burial at
Chestnut Lawn Cemetery in Rte. 9W, New Baltimore, NY.
In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to First United Methodist Church of Coxsackie
Arrangements are under the direction of the W.C. Brady's Sons Funeral Home in Coxsackie
