Dorothy Inez Kirby, 84, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024, at her residence with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Habersham County, Georgia on May 9, 1939 to the late Fred Englin and Hazel Crunkleton. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Haney; second husband, Fred Kirby; daughter, Elizabeth Diane Thomas; and her sons, Billy Haney and Ricky Haney.
Dorothy enjoyed being outside in the yard working with her hands. Most of all she loved her family, especially having them all around for the holidays. She leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Donald Kirby (Sherri); daughter, Crystal Ferguson; grandchildren, Michelle Grigg (Scott), Christy Creed (Bryan), Michael Thomas (Maddi), Ricky Haney, (Jeannie) Jason Haney, Justin Haney, Joey Thompson (Beth), Steven Thompson (Andra), Nicole Dimpfl (Jason), Keith Kirby (Shelly); and her 16 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jimmy Maney officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Cancer Services of Gaston County.
