Dorothy Krome Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" Krome
Wood River - Dorothy M. "Dottie" Krome of Wood River, IL, passed away Christmas Day at 12:19 p.m at Villa Rose in Bethalto.
She was born September 5, 1930 to Sam and Emma (Fudurich) Boshkoff. Dorothy was raised by her mom until 1942 when her mom married Charles Brankov. He was the only dad she knew and loved.
Dorothy had two nicknames. She was called "Booko", the name given to her by her childhood neighbor, Babe (Skundrich) Oseland. Dorothy was also called Dottie. She most of all liked to be called Mom, Grandma or Friend.
On September 4, 1954, Dorothy married Elmer Krome at St. Bernard's rectory in Wood River. Their attendants were a cousin, Mary Skundrich Malone and Louis Rexing. At this time Dorothy became a step-mom to Judy Krome. On June 4, 1957, a son, Charles was born and on December 12, 1960, a daughter, Karen, was born.
Dorothy worked at Owens IL Glass in Alton, IL from 1948 until 1983 when the plant closed. She also worked at Smit's Flowers in Wood River for 20 years.
Dorothy graduated from St. Bernard's Grade School in 1944 and Wood River High School in 1948. She became a St. Louis Blues season ticket holder and missed very few home games. The out of town games were Chicago (Boooo), Detorit, Dallas, Minnesota, Anaheim, Nashville, Toronto and Vegas. Dorothy always joked that she wasn't going to die until the Blues won the Stanley Cup, which they finally did. She was a season ticket holder for 40 years. She also donated blood on a regular basis. A special thanks to Tom and Judy Wilder for all they have done as well as neighbors: Nick, Tamara and Piper Wiegand who kept an eye on mom. A big thank you to Mike Fornachon who took Dottie to all Blues home games after she wasn't able to drive any longer.
Dottie was a lifelong member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, now Holy Angels.
Dottie is survived by a son, Charles (Veronica) Krome; daughter, Karen (Bob) Stairs; step-daughter, Judy (Butch) Bond; grandchildren, Amy Simon, Jerry (Tracy) Cicio, Jarrid (Lori) Stairs, Christopher Anderson-Krome; great-grandchildren, David, Nathan, Carter, Audrey, Kourtney, Dominic, Colton, C.J. and Dacota; and great great grandchildren, Annie and Clara.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by granddaughters, Cammie Stairs and Beth Truetzschler; great-granddaughter, Natalie Simon.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday December 30, 2024 at Paynic Home for Funerals. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday December 31, 2024 at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Wolford as celebrant. Burial will follow at Woodland Hills Cemetery. In honor of Dottie, please wear St. Louis Blues attire.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul at Holy Angels, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Southern Illinois Hospice.

Condolences to the family. I always looked forward to visiting with her when I brought her communion. She often talked about when she was younger, and often about a Blues Game. Such a great lady.
