Obituary published on Legacy.com by Avram Funeral Home - Mayville on Dec. 20, 2025.
Dorothy Jean Lambert, age 94, died unexpectedly on December 17, 2025, in a car accident, one day before her 95th birthday. She was on her way to celebrate that milestone with her family, whom she loved more than anything. She moved to
North Branch, MI in 2023 and lived in
Warren, MI prior for over 50 years.
She was born on December 18, 1930, in Kentucky to Carter and Stella Mae Alexander. She was one of seven children and is survived by her brothers Donald and David (Lana), and her sister Sharon. She was preceded in death by her siblings Denzel, Natalie, and Carolyn.
In her early childhood, her family moved to Michigan, where she later graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949. On July 31, 1951, she married James Eldon Lambert while he was home on leave from military service from the Korean War. Eldon preceded her in death in 2010, and she missed him deeply.
Dorothy was the proud mother of Robbie Jean Gilbert (Rich) and James "Jim" Lambert (Siobhan). She was a cherished grandmother to Rochelle (Jack), Julie (Mark), Jimmy (Michelle), and Ryan (Brandey), and a devoted great-grandmother to 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored.
Her life reflected the resilience of her generation. She lived through the Great Depression and worked in factories during World War II while her brother served. Though shy at heart, she was lively, warm, and wonderfully boisterous with her family.
An avid gardener and a great cook, Dorothy showed love through food and time spent together. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and tradition. Outside, her gardens were just as full of life. They were carefully tended, always growing, and unmistakably hers. Dorothy had a green thumb that anyone would be envious of. If it could be planted, she could make it thrive. She found peace in the soil and joy in watching things grow, and she shared that joy freely with others. Dorothy also loved literature and had a remarkable memory; recalling stories, poems, and details from long ago with ease.
She loved Jesus, and we know that she is in His hands.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated, and her cremains will be laid to rest beside her husband at White Chapel Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, when her daughter is able to heal and family can gather together.
In her honor, the family invites you to try one of her family favorites: a "Dorothy Dog." Place an uncooked hot dog in a bun, add any toppings you like, (cheese, ketchup, chili, etc.) on a piece of foil, loosely pinch the top of the foil and seal the sides, to create a "steam tent". Bake at 350° for 20 minutes. The bun bakes up crisp and warm. It is simple, comforting and made with love, just like Dorothy.
She will forever be missed and loved.
