Dorothy Helen Lukasik, at age 98.98 (that's right), passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, just shy of her 99th birthday, October 30 at the Radcliff, Woodale, IL, where she was living the last 10 months. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell (Mike), Lukasik, daughter Donna Marie Lukasik, six siblings and their five spouses, two nieces and their spouses. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Christine Lukasik, multiple nieces and nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. As the daughter of immigrants, Dorothy was the last daughter and child, but the first daughter to complete high school in her family. She was a phone operator (the kind you see in old movies that say how may I direct your call and plug you into a slot) and became a bookkeeper for most of her career. She loved working with numbers as she had a sharp mind for figures and had a sharp mind up until the end. She loved reading, her family, her home, her lifelong friends, social friends, a good crossword puzzle and game shows. The house was often decorated for each holiday. Although she enjoyed socializing, especially in her local senior club, she also coveted her alone time. Dorothy enjoyed her travels which took her frequently to Colorado to visit her daughter before she stopped traveling. She was known to visit England, Poland, the Bahamas, Vegas, California, Arkansas, Oregon, frequenting Florida, to name a few places. She spent time with her extended family over most holidays and catholic traditions and had many gatherings with her siblings, in-laws, and their spouses for cards and other events throughout the year. She often thought about angels and collected angel figurines and gravitated towards butterflies. Her home from 1959-2024 was her castle, whereby she took great pride in its care and decor as well as her own appearance. She believed in matching outfits and accompanying jewelry, wondering why the CNAs at the end had mismatched her style when they dressed her, which was hilarious when she informed her daughter. She often looked 10 years or more younger, so people were always surprised to learn her age. And, her response, when someone would be so bold as to ask her age was usually, “What’s age? It’s just a number, and my number is unlisted”.
A Catholic mass will be held, Wednesday, October 29 at 10 am at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 1233 W Holtz Ave, Addison, IL 60101, with a burial service immediately afterward at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery, 8600 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles, IL 60714, to be followed by a polish family style luncheon gathering at White Eagle, 6839 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles, IL 60714 for friends and family.
