Dorothy Ann Martin, 87, of Forreston, IL, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025, in Madison, WI. She was born on August 14, 1937, in Winslow, IL, the daughter of Edward Harold and Charlotte E. (Metcalf) Paul. She married Lawrence (“Larry”) Martin on October 19, 1958, at Martintown Community Church.
Dorothy spent much of her life working for various manufacturing companies and was able to retire in 2004. She was a long-time member of North Grove Evangelical Church and loved reading her Bible. She also enjoyed listening to country and gospel music and watching her favorite westerns––especially The Waltons. She had a distinctive, joyful giggle that could be heard across any room, and she treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren above all else. While she will be dearly missed, her family rejoices in knowing the Lord has graciously reunited her with her beloved husband after ten years apart.
Dorothy is survived by her six sons, Donovan (Melanie) Martin of Virginia Beach, VA, Calvin Martin of Monroe, WI, Alden (Roxann) Martin of Murphysboro, IL, Jerome (Vikki Oppold) Martin of Freeport, IL, Douglas (Arline) Martin of Wildwood, FL, and Rodney Martin of Forreston, IL; one daughter, Angela (Kirk) Janicke of Forreston, IL; brother, Delmar (“Larry”) Crimmins; sister, Donna Quick; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son James, grandson Cody James Martin, brothers Dale and Dwayne Paul, and sister Darlene Meyer.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 PM on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with Pastor Gavin Brandt officiating. A visitation will be held beforehand from 3:30 PM until the time of service. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial has been established in her memory.
