COHOES Dorothy A. McCrea, 81, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy.
Born in Cohoes, Dorothy was a lifelong resident of the city. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Sadie Kucharski Dziamba. She was educated in Cohoes schools and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from the College of St. Rose and her master's degree in Education from the University at Albany. Always passionate about teaching, she taught at Albany High School for over 30 years until her retirement. She was loved by all of her students and was even honored as an outstanding teacher by former Albany Mayor, Jerry Jennings.
Dorothy was a member of NYSUT, and she also belonged to the Northland Newfoundland Club along with her beloved Newfoundland, Shubert. She was an avid animal lover, and her home was always filled with her favorite dogs and cats. She was known for her positive spirit and radiant smile. She will be remembered as being the strongest part of her family; the Mom who was always organized and took care of everyone.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of William F. McCrea who passed in February of this year and the sister of the late Carol and Marilyn Dziamba. She is survived by her loving sons, John M. McCrea of Cohoes and Jason M. McCrea of Troy as well as one niece and three nephews.
At Dorothy's request, funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In recognition of her love of animals, please consider making a donation to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
