Dorothy Elizabeth Mellon

Dorothy Elizabeth (Garlaus) Mellon, 100 years old, a resident of Concordia at the Orchard, Butler PA, formerly of New Sewickley Twp., died June 12, 2025.
Born May 24, 1925, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Norosky) Garlaus. Dorothy was a member of St. Gregory Church in Zelienople. She was a graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh and a member of the Alumni Association. She briefly worked at Mercy Hospital and later at the Beaver Valley Medical Center and the Passavant Health Center, Zelienople. Dorothy loved to work magic cooking and baking – delighting her family and many friends and relatives. She was very generous with her love, time and nursing knowledge as her family and friends can attest. Dorothy was an awesome wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Dorothy recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a surprise party given by her family at Concordia, attended by many family members (including her two great-grand-daughters!) and friends. She said she felt like she was "in a dream."
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Jayne Mellon of Cranberry Township, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Peter Zajac of Magnolia, DE; four grandchildren, Kristin Mellon, David (Emily) Mellon and Kelly Zajac, and Alexander (Jacqueline) Zajac and two great-grand-daughters, Samantha Zajac and Adeline Mellon. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. Mellon, and brother, Richard Garlaus.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff at Concordia at the Orchard and the Good Samaritan Hospice staff for their care and compassion given to Dorothy during her stay.
Public visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 17th at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 Grandview Avenue, Zelienople, PA.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, June 17th at St Gregory's Church, 2 West Beaver St, Zelienople. Please meet at the church. Burial will follow at St Gregory's Cemetery, Zelienople.
