Dorothy "Dot" (Hollinger) Murray

April 6, 1927 – October 6, 2025

Dorothy "Dot" (Hollinger) Murray, 98, of Plum Borough, formerly of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on April 6, 1927, Dot was the daughter of the late Theodore W. and Mary (Verner) Hollinger. She grew up in a large, close-knit family and was preceded in death by her siblings Mary Louise "Valerie" Clark, Theresa Lasher, Eleanor Dudczak, Ann Bigenho, Ted Hollinger, Jr., Jack Hollinger, Richard "Dick" Hollinger, Edward "Conk" Hollinger, and Alice Mialki. Also preceded in death by her former husbands Phil Murray, Jr, and Forrest Hann.

Dot was the proud mother of four children-Jeff (Gail), PJ (Carol), Dan Murray (late Nanci Keefe), and Keely Stitt (Kraig)-the loving grandmother of Jake, Clara, Vanessa, Keenan, and Quinn Murray-and she also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored her. Her greatest joy in life was her family, whom she cherished with all her heart.

She worked for many years as a teller at the PNC branch in Verona, Pennsylvania, where she became a familiar and friendly face to countless customers.

Dot was a competitor in everything she did. Whether at the bridge table, in friendly games, or simply in lighthearted challenges, she brought her sharp wit and determination to every contest. A Sapphire Life Master in bridge, she relished the competition, the camaraderie, and the thrill of every hand played. She was especially fond of her Greensburg bridge group, whose friendship and shared passion for the game brought her endless joy. Her competitive streak even carried into friendly card games-she once called a rule violation in a casual game that may have been a little too strict, but it made everyone laugh and reminded them how much she loved to play (and win).

In addition to cards, she was a devoted Pittsburgh sports fan, cheering especially loudly for her beloved Steelers. A true character, Dot loved her candy and often dazzled friends and family alike with her glamorous outfits and lively personality. She had a zest for life, a resilient spirit shaped by hard times, and a heart that overflowed with love for those closest to her.

Dot's life was one of perseverance, laughter, family, flair, and fun. She will be remembered for her strength, her warmth, and her unshakable spirit.

The family extends special thanks to her niece Robin (Clark) Foreback for her love and devotion to Dot over the last several years.

Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate her life on Friday October 10 from 4-8 PM at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC, 421 Allegheny Avenue Oakmont, PA 15139. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday October 11 at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Church, 825 Second Street, Verona, PA 15147, followed by interment at St Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
