ANDOVER-Dorothy Louise Opat, 86, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Andover Village Retirement Community surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 31, 1939, in Layton, PA, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Marion and Mary (Johnson) Howser. On December 9, 1990, she married her beloved husband, John William Opat. At the time of his passing in 2022, they had been married for 31 years.
Kindhearted, Dorothy lived a full and vibrant life marked by her dedication to her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, roles she cherished above all else. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed tending to her flower gardens.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Yvonne M. (Phil) Quinn, Amanda L. (Michael) Cunningham, Vivian L. Buterbaugh, Crystal (Troy) Church and Donald (Becky) Church, Jr; 18 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and one on the way; two stepchildren, Lisa (Joe) Uhrin and Johnny Opat.
In addition to her parents Marion and Mary Howser and husband, John Opat, Dorothy is preceded in death by her son, Richard Rittinger; great grandchild, Jamaica Jones and her 10 siblings, Jesse, Herbert "Hoover", James "Big Jim", Robert "Bobby", Samuel, Marie "Sis", Viola "Vy", Lucille, Ruthie, and Nancy.
Private burial will take place at Dodgeville Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to Dorothy's Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 2:00PM at The Red Shed, 7517 Pymatuning Lake Road, Williamsfield OH 44093.
