Dorothy C. Peterson

Dorothy C. Peterson, 99, of Geneseo, passed away October 19, 2025, at Allure of Geneseo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday October 23, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1001 9th Street, Orion, IL. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday October 22, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Dorothy was born on January 12, 1926, the daughter of George and Evelyn (Johnson) Florine. She was raised in Bishop Hill and graduated from Galva High School. She married Alvin G. Peterson on January 25, 1948, in Bishop Hill, IL. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1994. Dorothy worked for the Rock Island Arsenal during World War II and later for the City of Moline. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school. She was also a Girl Scout leader. Dorothy was a talented seamstress and baker. She enjoyed crafting and square dancing.

Survivors include her son, Ronald (Gail) Peterson, daughters, Linda (Fritz) Apfel, and Susan Bos; grandchildren, Stacey (Ray) Cotty, Joe Bos, Cori (Jeff) Tillson, Caleb (Kim) Peterson, Sam (Tania) Peterson, Ellen (Jason) Swanson, Bryce Apfel, Britta Apfel, Owen Apfel, Ilze Apfel, Kim Marshall, Gary Ragsdale, James Benischek; 16 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis & Gwena Peterson; son-in-law, Peter Bos; brother, Orville Florine; and her parents.
