Funeral Service for Dorothy Melson Prater, 81, will Monday, October 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in the Alexander Welborn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday October 6, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Prater passed away Friday October 3, 2025 at her residence. She was born December 24, 1943 in Lawrence County Alabama to Howard Kay Melson and Verbie Eddy Melson.

She was a devoted wife of 62.5 years to Charlie Prater. Mrs. Prater was a loving mother, mamaw, sister and friend to many. She loved going to church and reading her Bible in her spare time. She loved everyone with all her heart, but most importantly, she loved her Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by Husband, Charlie Prater, Daughter, Anita Lacy, son, Timothy Prater, brother, Seburn Melson and Parents.

Mrs. Prater is Survived by:

Son – Jamie Prater (Jill)

Daughter- Sarena White (Johnny)

Brothers – Billy Melson and Rayburn Melson

Eight Grandchildren and Ten Great Grandchildren

Pallbearers will be Drew Prater, Cody Bowers, Jacob White, Coynis Smith, Jeff Melson and Paul Prater

The family would like to give a special thanks to her doctors and caretakers and to Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for their care of their mother.
