Dorothy Schotz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Par-Troy Funeral Home on Feb. 23, 2026.
Dotty, 93 years young, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family: her son, (2) daughters, niece, nephew, and grandchildren. The very people who filled her life with purpose, pride, and joy. Born to Virginia and Ignazio Lacorte, she grew up with a deep appreciation for family, music, lively conversation, and Italian culture and traditions.

She was married to the love of her life, Donald for 57 years until he died in 2013, with whom she built a warm home filled with laughter, love and devotion. Her beloved sister, Madge, predeceased her in November of 2024.

Dotty began her career as an executive secretary at Curtiss-Wright, where her sharp mind, impeccable organization, and natural grace made her indispensable. She later devoted herself to being a homemaker, pouring her energy into raising her family.

Determined, stubborn in the best possible way, and fiercely committed to her independence, Dotty lived life on her own terms right up until the day she died. She was loyal and trusting, and she often spoke about how lucky she felt: lucky for the life she lived, the people she loved, and the family she was blessed with. She took immense pride in the closeness of her family, knowing how rare and precious that bond truly is.

A woman of strong convictions who was never shy about expressing how she felt, Dotty was always ready for a thoughtful discussion whether about politics or life itself. Singing was her lifelong passion, and from a young age until just a few years ago, she delighted audiences with her beautiful soprano voice, shared with the same grace and poise that defined her. She found joy and purpose in her involvement with the Montville Senior Center, where she built friendships and community. And through every season, she remained a loyal fan of the New York Mets, cheering them on with hope and heart.

Dotty is survived by her three children - Robert, Debbie Peterkin (husband Jim), and Andrea Gasior ( Husband Greg) who were the pride of her life and the center of her world. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Dana DeBoer ( Husband Dave), Ryan Peterkin, Stephen Gasior, and Alyssa Gasior, and her adored greatgrandchildren James, Olivia, and Victoria, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. She will also be missed by her niece Denise Briguglio (husband George) and nephew Gregory Zellmann along with a host of extended relatives and friends. Her legacy lives on in their laughter, their stories, and the love she instilled in all of them. Dotty will be remembered for her energy and zest for life and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at Par Troy Funeral Home. 95 Parsippany Rd., Parsippany. Funeral Service will be offered on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:00am. Internment: George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

I was so sorry to hear from Andrea about Dorothy´s passing. She and my mom, Yvette, were high school buddies; and along with Joan and Martha, were quite a foursome of friends since high school. After they were all married and raised their families, the four couples remained close friends. I remember going to see Dorothy sing at a supper club one year with my parents, I think it was in Wallington. She had such a beautiful voice and her love of singing and the theatre was so strong. I remember Dorothy and Don made it to my wedding, even though it was during a blizzard. I couldn´t believe they made it from their home to Ramsey in a foot of snow. I know the four friends are together again, and having a great reunion. Robert, Debbie, and Andrea, I offer my deepest sympathies.

Our deepest condolences and love to the family. Dottie was so dear to us and we valued her friendship through the decades. We met in opera workshops in the late 1970's and had the wonderful good fortune to perform together both on stage and in the concert hall. Since moving to the southwest we made sure on our annual visits back east to take time for visits and dinner with Dottie. We loved her wit, warmth and sparkling energy. Sharing our mutual families updates was always a part of our conversations. Dottie loved her family deeply and was such an inspiration to us through years. Carmen Artis & John Hammel
