Dorothy L. Skinner, 94, of Boulder passed away from Lewy Bodies Dementia on September 11, 2025. Dorothy was born on December 22, 1930, in Sheridan Wyoming, to Paul and Susie (Kobielusz) Lacek. Following high school, she moved to Colorado to attend business school.
After starting her family, she worked at the University of Colorado Fleming Law School as a Legal Secretary in Law Revision. Many former law students will remember Dorothy for typing their student papers. Professors and legal authors will remember her for typing their books and correcting their grammar, citations and references. She even purchased one of the original IBM word processors that took up a whole room in her house for her typing and editing services. Dorothy continued by working with several Law Firms in the Boulder area. Eventually she ended her career working for NIST well into her 70s in an administrative capacity. Before entering assisted living Dorothy went so far as to edit her assisted living contract before signing it!
She is survived by her two sons, Rick (Jody Price) and Thomas (Jean), four grandchildren, Matthew (Christina), Christopher (Xing Tang), Brittany (Dustin) Jones, and William (Kelly), and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her former husband Marvin, her parents, a brother, and granddaughter, Tracy. Dorothy is survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to all those at Adara Living (Broomfield Skilled Nursing) and TRU Hospice who took care of her for the past 8 years. Not many of her friends are expected to view this obituary as she outlived them all!
A favorite quote of hers: "I don't care what you do, be it flying lessons, skydiving, or scuba diving. Just call me after you do it, not before."
