Visitation for Dorothy Louise Smith (nee Krohn), 94, of Schaumburg, formerly of Palatine, will be held Friday, February 27, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Prayers will begin Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, and process to St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Drive, Palatine, for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass. The Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
Dorothy was born November 23, 1931, in Chicago, and passed away, February 22, 2026, in Schaumburg.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Wayne G. Smith (2018); loving mother of Sharon (Michael) Huntenburg, Kathy (Kevin) Gallagher, Stewart (Michelle) Smith and Steven (Jennifer) Smith; loving grandmother of Michele (Andrew) , Kathryn (Erik), Steven (Nichole), Brendan (Natalia), Nicholas, Devin, Brittany, Briana, Hayly and Dylan; loving great-grandmother of Gavin, Jackson, Paxton, Benjamin, Boden, Gwen and Ella; dear daughter of the late Bernard and Kathryn (nee Hinkes) Krohn; fond sister of Marie, Bernie, Bob, Don, and Ed.
When a young Dorothy traded in her softball knickers for a pencil skirt and started a career at Kraft Foods, she quickly caught the attention of a young purchaser named Wayne. The two went on to marry, raising four children and three Schnauzers, and sharing a love of gardening, travel and fishing. A devoted sister, mother and grandmother, and a faithful member of St. Thomas of Villanova church for over 50 years, Dorothy will be remembered for her sense of humor, her cookies and her signature laugh (snort).
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be appreciated to the National Audubon Society.
