It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Ann (Millen) Snyder, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, who peacefully left this world on March 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Dorothy's life was a testament to the strength, grace, and boundless love that only a mother and devoted wife could offer.
Dorothy was known for her warmth, her generous spirit, and her ability to make every person feel like family. Whether it was through a comforting meal, a thoughtful gesture, or simply being present, she made those around her feel loved and valued. Her home was always open, and her door was always welcoming to anyone in need of comfort or a listening ear. A true embodiment of selflessness, she was the heart of her family, always putting others before herself, and her love knew no bounds.
Born on November 19, 1949, to the late William and Dorothy (McCain) Millen, Dorothy grew up in Bensonville, Illinois, where she learned the values of kindness, empathy, and the importance of family. Her life's true calling became evident early on, as she cherished those around her with a gentle spirit, making everyone feel loved and valued.
It was while attending Suomi College in the upper peninsula of Michigan, that Dorothy met the love of her life, David Snyder. Together, they created a partnership that would serve as the foundation for a family filled with warmth, joy, and unwavering support. Dorothy and David married in the Summer of 1969 and continued their education and love story while attending Michigan Technological University. Their years in the upper peninsula included David's employment with the National Park Service and Dorothy's with the local U.S. Congressman's office. After Michigan, they moved to the Chicago area before settling in Wadsworth.
Together they raised four beautiful children, each of whom became a reflection of her loving spirit. As a mother, Dorothy was everything to her children: a teacher, a guide, a protector, and, above all, a fierce supporter. Her devotion to them knew no bounds, and she poured her heart into shaping their futures with the same care and compassion that defined her own life. She cherished every milestone and believed deeply in the power of family, always making sure to create a home filled with laughter, comfort, and unconditional love.
In addition to her role as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Dorothy was an active member of her community, including volunteering with the Wadsworth Welcome Wagon, the Girl Scouts of America, Eastern Star and her many supporting roles as the wife of a Freemason. She volunteered her time, gave selflessly to causes she believed in, and always offered support to those facing difficult times.
Dorothy was a passionate gardener whose love for creating beautiful flower gardens brought joy to all who had the privilege of seeing them. For many years, she dedicated countless hours to cultivating vibrant, colorful spaces that were a testament to her creativity and love of nature. Whether planting delicate Japanese irises or lenten roses, Dorothy found peace and fulfillment in the rhythm of the seasons and the growth of every bloom.
Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, compassion, and strength. She is survived by her loving husband, David Martin Snyder Sr., their children: Suzi Lynn Snyder of
Wadsworth, Ohio, Ann Louise (Sean) Grosz of Kirtland, Ohio, MaryBeth Snyder of
Wadsworth, Ohio, and David Martin (Mandy) Snyder Jr. of
Wadsworth, Ohio; her brother, Bill Millen (Sue Taegder) of Courtland, Alabama; her grandchildren: Benjamin Snyder-Lane, Doyle Grosz, Ethan Snyder, and Baylie Snyder; and her beloved 'outlaws' Jay Snyder of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Dale Schnetzer of Huron, Ohio; Judy and Jon Hosfeld of Marysville, Pennsylvania; and Dan Snyder of Aloha, Oregon, along with a host of family and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m., Friday, March 28th at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman Street,

Her ashes will be kept in a place of quiet reverence, waiting for the day when they will be joined with those of her beloved husband. Together, their ashes will be scattered in a place of deep significance, a final tribute to the bond they shared throughout their lives.

Dorothy's love for her family was unmatched, and her legacy will forever be planted in the gardens of their lives. May her spirit continue to guide us, and may we always remember the joy and love she brought into the world, especially as a mother and a wife.
