Joseph (Joe) DeWinter, aged 85, of Manistique, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2025, at St. Mary Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Born on March 29, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Joe lived a distinguished life of exemplary dedication, professional public service and charity.

A graduate of Michigan Technological University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's degree in Construction Management. Joe served as the Schoolcraft County Road Commissioner for 30 years where his expertise left a lasting impact. His personal interests, and favorite pastimes included golf, boating, fishing, and hunting. He was a devoted and influential member of the Manistique Elks Club serving several times as an Exalted Ruler, with over 50 years of dedicated service.

Joe is survived by his sons Daniel and Judy (Redeker) DeWinter of Muskego, WI, Tom and Cindy (Wolfe) DeWinter of Waunakee, WI, his brother Chuck (Carol) DeWinter of Harrison Township, MI. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher (Ange) DeWinter, Benjamin DeWinter, Taylor (DeWinter) and Jim Maciag, Morgan (DeWinter) and DJ Pellock, and Lacinda DeWinter; his great-granddaughters Loretta Maciag, and Lenora Pellock. As well as his niece Michelle (DeWinter) and Erik Hauser.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn (Carrie) of over 60 years, his father Joseph, and his mother Giroma.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on November 1, 2025, at St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique. Following the funeral service, a memorial will also be held at the Elks Club at 1:30 PM with a luncheon to follow. Memorial donations in Joe's name may be made to the Elks National Foundation.
