It is with heavy hearts we announce that Dorothy “Dottie” Van Tassel, age 94, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on February 23, 2025 at Ohio Living Swan Creek. Dottie was born on September 6, 1930 in Holland Ohio to Carl and Hazel Eiche. She graduated from Springfield High School and spoke fondly of her high school days as a majorette. For years, she kept her baton in her front closet as a reminder of all the good memories. In 1958 Dottie was inducted into the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi where she made lifelong friends and participated in many philanthropic service projects. She held a number of positions in this women’s sorority, including President. Dottie married Norman Van Tassel and enjoyed many wonderful, happy years together. They loved to dance under the stars at Centennial Terrace and even won several competitions.
Dottie’s radiant personality shone through the minute you met her. She was an amazing wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She always greeted you with a smile on her face and a “bless your heart” that rolled off her lips. Left to cherish Dottie’s memory are her children Kipp (Dianna) Van Tassel and Brent Van Tassel (Melissa Netry), and grandchildren Levi Van Tassel and Nina Van Tassel. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Eldon “Bud”, Ronald and Mervin Eiche, and her beloved husband Norm.
The family will receive guests at Walter Funeral Home 4653 Glendale Ave, Toledo, OH, 43614 on Friday, February 28 from 10:00am-1:00 pm. The funeral will begin at 1:00 pm followed by interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park immediately after the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ohio Living Swan Creek for their kind and compassionate care for Dottie over the past five years.
