Dorothy Pittman Vaughan

Dorothy Pittman Vaughan, age 86, of Manteo, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022 at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
She was born on May 2, 1936 to John and Maggie Pittman of Halifax County, NC. Dorothy worked for Heilig-Meyers for seventeen years, and later in life, she worked as a caregiver. Dorothy was there to provide care to everyone she met. She was a lover of animals and looked after stray cats and dogs. Dorothy enjoyed and loved her extended family in Manteo and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Maggie Griffin Pittman; her father, John Fredrick Pittman; her husband, James Marvin Vaughan; and her sisters, Sarah Pittman Shreve and Shirley M. Pittman.
Dorothy is survived by her son, James F. Vaughan and his husband Jamie of Grand Junction, CO; her daughters, Kim Vaughan Espinoza and her husband John of Kill Devil Hills and Christa Vaughan of Rocky Mount; her sister, Virginia Pittman of Tarboro; two grandsons, Brian Gunnells and his girlfriend Nicole Beasley of Jackson and Dillon Vaughan and his girlfriend Nicole Rowe of Pinetops; two granddaughters, Brittany Lynn King of Tarboro and Stacey Lynn Gunnells of Ahoskie; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck.
