Dorothy Little Weldon "Sky"

Dorothy "Sky" Weldon passed at the age of 71 on September 22, 2025 in Miramar Beach, Florida. Dorothy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Sarah Elizabeth Crenshaw Little and Leslie Usry Little on March 1, 1954.

As a teenager, Dorothy spent time in Girl's school in Florida, where she was a competitive swimmer and sailor. Dorothy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dorothy had many professions, but was most proud of her time as a skilled artisan rugmaker. She made beautiful one-of-a-kind works of art in textiles. Dorothy loved art of all kinds and had a deep appreciation of the classic artworks by Monet, Degas, and Van Gogh. She, herself, painted many beautiful landscapes and other works of art her family now treasures. She also loved crochet and enjoyed making gifts for friends and family.

Music was one of Dorothy's biggest joys in life. In spite of memory loss caused by her health conditions, Dorothy never forgot a single lyric of any Beatles song. Dorothy had a free spirit that couldn't be contained. She would tell others her name didn't match her personality and would prefer to be called "Apple", "Sky", or "Skybird".

She was proud of her days spent as a hippie and believed deeply in the spiritual power of love, peace, and forgiveness. She cared little for material possessions and valued the love of people over everything. She loved her children and grandchild and loved to talk about how proud she was of them. Her most favorite things were a cool conversation involving warm laughter with a hot cup of coffee.

Dorothy "Sky" Weldon is survived by her daughter, Cadence Weldon; daughter, Melody Patton (Matthew Patton); her granddaughter, McKenna Patton; sister, Deborah Angel Likis; and her nephews, Kerry Likis, Jr. and Kevin Likis (Stephie Deitz).

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Usry Little and Sarah Elizabeth Crenshaw Little; brother-in-law, Kerry Likis; and her extended family and best friend, Janis Couch.

A memorial service will be held at a place where she and her children played and shared a love of nature, The Birmingham Botanical Gardens on October 18th at 9:00 a.m. A tree will be dedicated in her honor. Coffee will be served.
