Dorothy Wolterstorff, 85, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls with her husband of 65 years holding her hand. Dorothy was born February 17, 1935 in Worthington, MN to Richard and Tena (Walburg) Meyer. Her family moved to Ocheyedan, IA where Dorothy attended country school and then she worked at Campbell Soup Co. in Worthington. Dorothy married Herbert Wolterstorff on June 17, 1955 in Ocheyedan. She continued to work for Campbell Soup Co. until 1959 when they moved to Sioux Falls. The family moved to Flandreau, SD in 1970 and Dorothy worked at Dakota Industries. Then she started working with her husband painting and finishing woodwork. Dorothy helped with lunches at the Flandreau Senior Citizens Center. Herb and Dorothy retired and spent several winters in Mesa, AZ. They moved to Sioux Falls in 2017 where they have continued to make their home. Dorothy was a member of the Shalom Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls and was a long time member of the Pipestone Christian Reformed Church. She loved baking cookies for her grandkids, playing dominoes and piano, embroidery, and was a great seamstress.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Herb; three children, Linda (Tom) Biever, Brandon, SD; Steve (Lynn), Strandburg, SD; Deb (Brian Oakleaf) Grohs, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, Amanda Biever, Jessica (Galen Spong) Biever, Marissa (Jason) Thode, Amy (Pat) Carroll, Trevor (Danielle) Grohs, Leah Sutter; three great-grandchildren, Ezra and Case Thode, Trace Grohs; and five siblings, and five siblings, her twin brother Garrett (Joyce) Meyer, Worthington, MN; Jan (Robert) Roelofsen, Lake Hendricks, MN; John (Carolyn) Meyer, Sheldon, IA; Marilyn (Bernie) Pommer, Ellsworth, MN; and Patricia Reller, Park Rapids, MN. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Denise; two sons-in-law, Dale Grohs and Jim Sutter; and great-grandson Tayden Grohs.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Pipestone Christian Reformed Church, Pipestone, MN, with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Egan, SD. Livestream will be available at www.skrochfc.com. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am prior to the service. Memorials to Cure Kids Cancer at www.sanfordhealthfoundation.org
