Dorothy Joyce Zimmerling, Rogersville, 79, retired Castle Metal, Sales, passed away May 09, 2025. she was born March 27, 1946 to Albert Joseph Hawkins and Sarah Jane Elliott in Ashland, Kansas.
Joyce didn't know a stranger. In her younger years you would find her on the sidelines watching the grandkids play football, baseball, soccer, going to the NBC Baseball Around The Clock with Neil and Hunter, watching dance recitals and band concerts.
She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan along with the Shockers and KState. In the last few years she would be caught watching any sport she could find. Joyce Loved spending time with friends and family so much that when she retired from Castle she spent the next 13 years as a recess / lunchroom aid at Nelson Elementary in Haysville. Those kids loved that she would sit and eat with them and talk to them, she even had a table called Grandma's table. Needless to say her name wasn't Ms.Joyce they called her Grandma. Joyce was an alumni of the Attic Bulldogs Class of 1963.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Zimmerling, Parents, Albert (Bert) & Janey Hawkins, brothers & Sister in Laws Bill (Sue) Hawkins, Albert (Barb) Hawkins, Nephews J.K. Hawkins & Teddy Hawkins, Great Grandson Milo Heindel.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Pat) Lemmons and Sherry (Marc) Wells; grandchildren, Nate (Miranda) Lemmons, Jacob (Annie) Heindel, Sarah Lemmons, Nic (Olivia) Lemmons, Katelyn (Casey) Benware, Dani Holst, Hunter (Annalisa) Heindel and Neil (Shai) Lemmons; 9 great-grandchildren; and many niece & nephews.
