Dortha A. Recker, age 86, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at Woodland Hospice, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on October 12, 1938, in Clare, Michigan, Dortha was the beloved daughter of Clarence and Ocie A. (Fitzpatrick) Kirkpatrick. From her earliest years, she embodied warmth, strength, and a quiet resilience that carried her through life and left a lasting impact on those blessed to know her.
Dortha was a devoted mother, proud grandmother, loyal friend, and loving companion. She dedicated much of her life to caring for others, both at home and in the community. As a homemaker, she created a nurturing foundation for her surviving children: Rhonda Roberts of Mt. Pleasant, Dyana (Jim) McVey of Cheboygan, Kendale (Carla) Recker of Mt. Pleasant, and Lean (Mark) Goffnett of Shepherd. Her heart expanded with joy as her family grew to include her cherished grandchildren, Matt, Dane, Cody, Lucy, Alex, Ciara, Kendale Jr., Kyle, and Lance, and numerous great-grandchildren who brought her endless pride and smiles.
Professionally, Dortha found fulfillment working at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center and later at Aunt Millie's Bread Store, where her friendly spirit and strong work ethic were deeply appreciated.
She was a woman of deep faith and community. A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and formerly of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Dortha lived her values with grace and compassion. She also found joy in camaraderie and laughter as a proud member of the Red Hat Society, where her vibrant personality and generous heart were always on display.
Dortha was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Oscar Recker. Their memory, along with the love she gave so freely, will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Dortha's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. A luncheon will be held at Lincoln Reception Center immediately following. Following cremation, her remains will be interred at St. Joseph Cemetery in Beal City.
In honor of her compassionate spirit, memorial donations may be made to Woodland Hospice, whose care and kindness meant so much to Dortha and her family. Envelopes will be available to Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home.
She will be remembered always for her devotion, her quiet strength, and the enduring love she gave to all who knew her.
