Abingdon, Maryland - Dorthea Marlene Luttrell, 94, formerly of Cumberland, died Jan. 19, 2026, at her home in Abingdon, Md.

Born Sept. 5, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ester (Buskey) Travis. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John E. Luttrell Sr.; as well as brothers, Leo Travis, Francis Travis; and sisters, Dolores Thorson and Betty Fannon.

Marlene graduated from St. Mary's High School and was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church (now part of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish). She loved being a mother to five busy children. She was involved in many of their activities, especially Scouts, sports and 4-H. She spent many volunteer hours at "St. Pete's" and delighted in being recognized by students who knew her from the library, cafeteria, or as the "strict" substitute teacher. Later she filled her days with gym classes and volunteering. She could be found often at St. Anthony's Place Food Pantry and serving at church bereavement luncheons. She was a member of the Bedford Road Homemakers Club, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Jack and Marlene loved to travel across the United States, especially to visit children and vacationed with family in the Outer Banks for 32 years. They were volunteers for Meals on Wheels. Marlene was employed by Northern Pharmacy and Medical Equipment as an inventory specialist at Frostburg Village Nursing Home. She was a dedicated Chief Machine Judge on election days for the board of Bedford Road precinct. Marlene is remembered for the loving care she provided her mother, as well as, numerous neighbors and friends. She spoke often of pride in the military service of her multiple family members. She was an Avid Notre Dame football fan.

Marlene moved to Abingdon in Harford County in January 2023.

Marlene is survived by four sons, John E. Luttrell Jr. and wife Jody, Fallston, Michael L. Luttrell and wife Eileen, Smithsburg, Stephen T. Luttrell and wife Debbie, Pensacola, Fla., and Gregory N. Luttrell and wife Amy, Parrish, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Ann Pendergast and her husband Mike, Abingdon; one sister, Linda Berke, Sping Hill, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friend of 88 years, Nadine Reinhart.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Visiting Angels Agency, who have assisted her so that she could remain at home.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, MD, on Monday, Jan. 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Followed by Mass of the Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at the Shrine of SS Peter and Paul, Cumberland, beginning at 1 p.m.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cumberland.
