William "Bill" Grant Muir, 84, of Cumberland, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Cumberland Healthcare.

Born November 29, 1941, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William Jones and Julia Ann (Deibler) Muir. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra (Cross) Muir; twin sister, Wilma Smith and husband Norman; sister, Marlene Russell and husband Richard; and brother-in-law, Robert Gilkey.

Bill was 1959 graduate of Fort Hill High School. After high school, Bill served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Goodfellowship Club and the Outdoor Club. Bill was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish.

Bill enjoyed cooking chili and going to The Dam Tavern. He worked at the guardhouse at Allegany College of Maryland. Bill also worked as an inspector with the City of Cumberland.

Bill is survived by his sons, James W. Muir and Brian M. Muir and wife Duong; grandson, Grant M. Muir; and sister, Flora Gilkey; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

A funeral service will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 11:00 am with Deacon Ryan Schmeltzer officiating. Friends and family will be received one hour prior.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans' Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
