Rev. Dr. James Hicks

Flintstone, MD-

Rev. Dr. James C. Hicks, Jr., 84, of Flintstone, MD, and Roebuck, SC, passed peacefully into the arms of his Heavenly Father on February 1, 2026.

Born July 12, 1941, in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late James C. Hicks, Sr. and Edna (Dixon) Hicks.

Throughout his life, Rev. Dr. Hicks served congregations in various locations, including Atlanta, GA; Lumberton, NC; Spring Lake, NC; and Spartanburg, SC.

Later in life, he and his wife, Susie, dedicated their time to missionary work across the United States, with the exception of Hawaii. Their skills were utilized both domestically and internationally to construct and renovate camp cabins. Additionally, they found fulfillment in doing maintenance work at children's camps and retreat centers.

In his younger years, he enjoyed hiking. He also enjoyed traveling in their camper with Susie, painting, woodworking, and sailing.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Susan; children, Vinh Le, Tuan Le, Van Le, Susan Marie Hicks Maddux, Long Le, James Edwin Hicks, and Justin David Hicks; foster daughter, Kasmira Fox; sister, Carolyn Hicks Rogers; 21 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Cityreach Church, Cumberland, MD, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Fred Timbrook, officiating. There will also be a memorial service at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church in Roebuck, South Carolina, at a later date.
