Doug Mathis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home - Wichita Falls on Feb. 13, 2026.
Doug Mathis, 79, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Thursday, February 12, 2026. Doug was born to Arthur and Nellie Mathis in Frederick, Oklahoma, on January 19, 1947. On February 27, 1965, Doug married Sybil McGee. The couple move to Wichita Falls where they grew a family and a successful business.

Ligon Coliseum at MSU, JS Bridwell Ag Center and other city locations, Wichita Falls Boys and Girls Club Facilities, and WFISD Memorial Stadium and secondary schools. Doug never met a stranger and would strike up conversation with anyone buying his hot dogs. Doug also worked many years for Automatic Vending Services.

Doug was an avid fan of all OU sports. He also supported his sons and grandsons in their love of drag racing.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, ten siblings and his son Scott Mathis.

He is survived by his wife, Sybil of 61 years; son, Sammy and his wife Misti; grandsons, Brandon Mathis and Kaden Mathis; one sister, Sue of Fort Worth; a daughter-in-law, Kerri Mathis and her grown children Erin Shields and Garrett Rangel.

A service will be held Wednesday, February 18th at 10:00 a.m. at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home with the Reverend Micky Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Frederick, Oklahoma.
