Doug Miller, affectionately known as "Millsey," passed away peacefully on May 27th, 2024, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family at the Wilmot Cancer Institute. Doug fought a courageous battle against AML with the same strength and spirit that defined his life.
Born in Dansville, NY, on February 1, 1949, Doug often proudly proclaimed that he was raised in the "center of the universe." He graduated from Dansville Central High School, where he shined as an athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. His love for sports continued throughout his life as he played softball, bowled, and golfed well into his retirement.
Doug dedicated 42 years to Frontier Communications/Rochester Telephone Communications, where his work ethic and dedication left a lasting impact. After retiring 13 years ago, he embraced a more leisurely pace, filling his days with family, friends, and travel. He also picked up running as a hobby, participating in numerous local 5k events.
Doug was a devoted family man, cherishing every moment spent with his wife of 49 years, Cindy. He was the proud father of MaryBeth Robbins and Matt (Eva) Miller and a doting grandfather to Cameron, Evelyn, Calihan, and Mallory. His brother, Greg (Patti) Miller, sister-in-law Julia Miller, the entire Sanderson family and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis Miller and Shirley McDaniel, and his brother, Mark Miller.
His passion for sports extended beyond his playing days. Doug was an influential figure in youth sports in Dansville and Canandaigua, serving as a baseball coach, Canandaigua Junior Baseball Commissioner, and CYO basketball coach. His love for the Buffalo Bills and Syracuse Orange was infectious, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams.
Doug's love for dogs, his joy in attending live sporting events, and his enthusiasm for gatherings with family and friends were just a few of the many facets of his vibrant life. His presence brought warmth and laughter to every occasion, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A casual celebration of Doug's life will be held at King's Bend Park North Lodge on Thursday, June 13th, from 2:00-6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doug's name can be made to the Wilmot Cancer Center at https://www.urmc.rochester. or The Vincent House, 310 2nd Ave, Wayland, NY 14572.
Doug Miller was a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever inspire and guide us

Cindy, Matt and Mary Beth, I just read this and I want to express my sincere condolences on Doug's passing. I fondly remember Doug's even temperament when we coached Matt's CYO team. A great example to all
